Recovery time can vary between individuals and depends upon your operation or procedure.
Before you are discharged from hospital we will make sure:
- You are fully awake
- You have had something to drink
- Your pain is managed
- Any nausea or vomiting is controlled.
You must have someone to collect you or accompany you home and you should have a responsible adult to supervise you for 24 hours. You should not use public transport or drive yourself home.
Before you leave you will be given:
- Specific information about the procedure you have had
- Advice on wound care and dressings if required
- Any physiotherapy information required
- Advice about compression stockings and or injections to reduce blood clots if needed
- Advice about restarting any regular medicines that you stopped for the procedure
- Information about any follow-up arrangements
Make sure that you have a supply of painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen at home if these are suitable for you. If you need other medication this will be supplied.
It is important to rest after your procedure and follow the aftercare advice provided.
