Please read this page and tick the box in the agreement of services to opt in, or out, of your personal data being shared with the PHIN.
As part of the national acute data alignment programme, Newcastle Hospitals Private Healthcare will share your personal data and NHS number (England and Wales), CHI number (Scotland) or Care Number (Northern Ireland), with the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN). This is to assist with the collection and publication of information nationally about the safety, quality and costs of private healthcare.
Sharing of your personal data will only take place with your explicit consent. If you choose to be excluded from sharing, Newcastle Hospitals Private Healthcare is still required to share your NHS number to the PHIN.
Your consent for your personal information to be processed in this way is entirely voluntary. You do not have to give consent and are free to withdraw consent at any time without giving a reason, and without your medical care or legal rights being affected.
PHIN will further share only your NHS number to NHS England, who will use this information to link to national hospital and mortality datasets. Your information will not be shared or analysed for any purpose other than those stated above.
The purpose of linking your information in this way is to improve public information about the quality and outcome of private healthcare. It used by the PHIN to measure quality of care and to check for adverse events after discharge from hospitals, including unplanned readmissions to hospital, emergency transfers between hospitals or deaths following treatment.
All information about you will be treated with highest standards of confidentiality and in accordance with data protection laws and the duty of confidentiality. Any information that is published by the PHIN or NHS England will always be in anonymised statistical form.
