Description
An angioplasty procedure inserts a wire, a balloon and a stent – a metal scaffold – to fix a narrowed artery to improve blood flow and keep the artery open. It is usually carried out on the same day following an angiogram or as a stand-alone procedure. We offer a range of angioplasty procedures including the more complex, and opening of completely blocked arteries.

Opening of coronary vessels
Description
This procedure, known as rotablation, removes calcified deposits in coronary arteries. A tiny drill called a rotablator is fed through the coronary artery on a thin wire which breaks the calcium in the wall of the artery into microscopic fragments and allows stents to be fitted. The procedure is usually carried out during angioplasty.

Description
Ablation, also known as atrial fibrillation, aims to scar tissue in the heart to block irregular electrical signals which cause an irregular heartbeat – known as atrial arrhythmia – and to restore a typical heartbeat. Depending on the type of procedure, patients can expect a stay of one to two nights in hospital, with one procedure involving a night in intensive care.

Description
A coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is a surgical procedure used to treat coronary heart disease. It diverts blood around narrowed or clogged parts of the major arteries to improve blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart. This procedure involves opening the chest and using a segment of vein from the leg or the artery behind the collar bone to bypass the narrowing in the coronary arteries.

Heart valve replacement via blood vessel
Description
This procedure known as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) involves inserting a catheter into a blood vessel in your upper leg or chest and passing it towards your aortic valve. The catheter is then used to guide and fix a replacement valve over the top of the old one.

Fitting and removal of device to monitor your heart (loop recorder)
Description
An implantable loop recorder (ILR) is a small device that is implanted under the skin to continuously monitor any abnormal heart rhythms for up to three years. The device can automatically record any fast or slow heart rate and/ or to store information such as your symptoms by simply pressing a button on a special activator.
