Experience
Dr Sophie Weatherhead has many years experience as a consultant in the NHS and sees general dermatology conditions such as acne, as wells as specialising in inflammatory and complex skin conditions including psoriasis, eczema, sunlight-induced reactions, skin lymphoma and cutaneous mastocytosis.
Her senior leadership roles include being current president of the British Photodermatology Group and she is the regional lead for photodiagnostics undertaking investigations and treatment for sunlight sensitivity problems. She has contributed to several British Association of Dermatologists treatment guidelines, and has written numerous patient information leaflets which are used nationally . She runs the regional cutaneous T cell lymphoma service working closely with colleagues in haematology and oncology.
Dr Weatherhead has been the dermatology representative for the North East at the British Association of Dermatologists between 2023 and 2026, helping to improve NHS services locally.
Dr Weatherhead trained at St Bartholomews hospital in London and completed her training in Newcastle. She earned a PhD from Newcastle university and her research has focused on psoriasis, skin lymphoma (CTCL) and phototherapy.
