Specialism/position:
I have been a consultant paediatric gastroenterologist for 22 years, working in London, Sheffield and now Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
My NHS duties are performed at The Great North Children’s Hospital, where I am head of department and nationally I am President Elect for the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
It is a privilege to be able to help children and their families.
Procedures or treatments carried out:
I’m an interventional and diagnostic endoscopist and perform ileocolonoscopy, gastroscopy, video capsule endoscopy and wireless Ph monitoring on NHS and private patients.
Experience:
My daily duties, as part of a multi-disciplinary team include inflammatory bowel disease, complex nutrition, chronic pancreatitis and care of children with impaired gastrointestinal immune function. My private practice and NHS practice cover the same group of patients.
The assessment of children with abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation involves interpreting radiology, blood science and endoscopy findings.
