- Cataract surgery
- Insertion of premium intraocular lenses – advanced lenses used in cataract surgery to improve vision and reduce the need for glasses
- Refractive laser cornea surgery – reshaping of the cornea using specialist lasers
- Refractive lens-based surgery – improving vision by inserting/replacing the eye’s natural lens to reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses
- Laser and lens-based correction of short sightedness, long sightedness, reading vision, and misshapen cornea (astigmatism)
- Strengthening the cornea to slow or stop keratoconus, where the cornea thins and bulges forward (keratoconus treatment and corneal cross linking)
- A short laser procedure used to clear blurred vision that can occur after cataract surgery (laser capsulotomy)
- Corneal transplantation, surgery to replace the damaged cornea. In many cases, only the affected layers are replaced, helping improve vision and recovery

Experience
Mr Hussien has gained extensive clinical experience in managing corneal and ocular surface diseases, supported by two prestigious fellowships in corneal diseases and corneal surgery – one at Southend University Hospital and another at the Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead. He also completed a medical retina fellowship at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, further enhancing his proficiency in the field.
In addition to his surgical expertise, Mr Hussien is an experienced lecturer with a proven history in clinical, medical education and research. He has documented experience in clinical research related to ophthalmology, ocular surface reconstruction, and medical retinal diseases. Mr Hussien has a prominent role as associate college tutor, examiner at the Royal college of Ophthalmologists and responsible for undergraduate, postgraduate and international medical graduates at Newcastle University.
