Experience:
I have been a consultant general and abdominal transplant surgeon at the Freeman Hospital since 2020 with a specialist interest in benign hepatobiliary disease and abdominal wall hernias.
I have extensive expertise in minimally invasive hernia and gallbladder surgery and play a leading role in delivering the day case service at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
I have particular interest and experience in developing multimodal enhanced recovery pathways after surgery with the aim of empowering and better preparing patients for surgery, promoting speedier recovery as a result.
To date, I have performed over 400 keyhole gallbladder and hernia repair procedures and over 200 abdominal transplantation procedures of the kidney, pancreas and liver.
I am an associate clinical lecturer at Newcastle University and lead trainer at the Northern Surgical Training Centre (NSTC).
I am actively involved in clinical research with over 15 peer-reviewed published articles in my field and over 50 presentations in national and international specialist meetings.
Qualifications:
MBChB; PGCert; MSc; PhD
Master’s degree in advanced surgical practice, PhD in liver transplantation and a PGCert in healthcare leadership.
